The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) consists of 7 full-body movement tests designed to assess fundamental patterns of movement in those with musculoskeletal pain.
The assessment guides the clinician to the most dysfunctional non-painful movement pattern, which is then assessed in detail. This approach is designed to complement the existing assessment and serves as a model to efficiently integrate the concepts of posture, muscle balance and the fundamental patterns of movement into our practice. The SFMA website has more information about this screen.
At BJC Health, our Exercise Physiologists work closely with Physiotherapists to help fully restore a client’s movement patterns and help them attain a high level of function and performance. The SFMA and FMS are extra tools we have to foster even quicker progress towards a client’s goal.
