Strength Training for Beginners

How can this event help me?

Strength training is one of the most powerful tools for supporting joint health, longevity, bone density, and long-term wellbeing. But knowing where to begin can feel overwhelming, particularly if you are managing a condition like osteoarthritis or osteoporosis, have been advised to start resistance training, or simply are not sure which exercises are right for you, how to do them safely, or how much is enough.

The amount of information out there can make it harder, not easier, to take that first step with confidence. Exercise Physiologists Sarah Comensoli and Kayleen Falconer have designed this session to cut through the noise and give you practical, reassuring guidance to get started safely and on your own terms.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How to start safely and without overwhelm: the key principles for beginning strength training in a way that feels achievable, no matter your starting point
  • How to choose simple, effective exercises: what types of movements to focus on early, and how to match them to your symptoms and current ability
  • How to adapt training for osteoarthritis and osteoporosis: practical guidance on protecting sensitive joints, building bone strength, and reducing fear around movement
  • How to interpret soreness and stiffness: what is normal, what to watch for, and how to adjust so you stay consistent without overdoing it
  • How to build a routine that actually sticks: realistic strategies to help you stay on track, even when motivation or energy dips

Join us on Wednesday, June 24th at 8:00 PM AEST for this informative live online event. As always, we welcome your questions and discussions to make this an engaging and supportive experience for everyone.
