How can this event help me?
Falls can become more significant as we get older. Recovery from an injury may take longer, and a fall can sometimes affect more than just our physical health, leading to reduced confidence, less activity and greater caution with everyday movement. Taking steps to reduce your risk can help you stay strong, active and independent, and continue doing the things you enjoy, whether that’s walking, travelling, exercising or keeping up with day-to-day life.
The good news is that there are practical things you can do to help reduce your risk of falls. Strength, balance and coordination all play an important role, as does your ability to react when you trip, stumble or lose your balance. In this BJC Connect event, Exercise Physiologists Sarah Comensoli and Tiani Suardana will explore how targeted exercise can help you build these physical skills and feel more capable and confident on your feet.
In this session, Sarah and Tiani will be discussing:
Understanding your falls risk: Learn about the physical factors that can make falls more likely, including changes in strength, balance, mobility and coordination.
What can contribute to a fall: Explore how your physical abilities, environment and everyday activities can influence your risk.
Building your protective factors: Understand how strength, balance, coordination and your ability to react can help you recover when your balance is challenged.
Exercise for falls prevention: Learn practical exercises that target the physical skills needed to stay steady and respond to unexpected challenges.
Putting it into practice: Discover simple ways to incorporate strength and balance training into your routine to help you stay active and independent.
Join us on Wednesday, October 14th at 8:00 PM AEDT for this informative live online event with Sarah and Tiani. As always, we welcome your questions and discussions to make this an engaging and supportive experience for everyone.
