Disturbances of normal immune function in this area play a role in autoimmune disease including inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis, reactive arthritis, spondyloarthritis & ankylosing spondylitis.
These diseases can cause arthritis, enthesitis & spondylitis.
