Dr Irwin Lim
Dr Irwin Lim MBBS (Hons), FRACP – Parramatta and Brookvale
Irwin obtained his fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2003 in the specialty of Rheumatology. He enjoys treating all aspects of rheumatic disease. Irwin’s specific interests include osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and inflammatory arthritis.
As director of BJC Health, Irwin developed the initial clinic in Parramatta to a multisite and multidisciplinary group. He strives to develop innovative, effective treatment solutions for patients suffering from chronic disease.
Irwin manages the clinic’s bone densitometry service. In 2009, he incorporated musculoskeletal ultrasound as a routine part of his clinical assessments. Already heavily involved in the clinic’s educational activities for allied health professionals and GPs, Irwin is now exploring the use of social media in patient education, and is the clinic’s principal blogger.
Dr Roberto Russo
Dr Roberto Russo MBBS (Hons), FRACP, BAppSc (PHTY) – Parramatta
Robert obtained his fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2007 in the specialty of Rheumatology and subsequently in the field of Nuclear Medicine. He has been working at BJC Health since 2007 treating the broad range of musculoskeletal conditions, with a special interest in non-inflammatory rheumatic diseases, Rheumatoid arthritis, and sporting injuries, the latter of which, he maintains through his role as the medical director of the West Harbour Rugby Union club. Robert first began in musculoskeletal health when he originally trained as a Physiotherapist, graduating in 1995.
Robert practices his nuclear medicine at the Concord Hospital as a staff specialist, where he is undertaking research in the application of Nuclear Imaging in the Rheumatic diseases. He also holds the position of Director of Medical Education, where he is responsible for the education program of the junior medical officers.
Robert has presented at a number of state and national meetings on a variety of topics and has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals.
Dr Herman Lau Bsc (Med), MBBS, FRACP – Parramatta and Chatswood
Herman is a Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist who has a wide range of experience in various inflammatory disorders and musculoskeletal conditions. His special interest is crystal arthropathies.
He is actively involved in community education and has given various community seminars and radio interviews. He was a conjoint lecturer at the University of Sydney and he continues to educate medical students in his private practice. He is one of the very few Cantonese and Mandarin speaking rheumatologists in NSW.
Herman is a current member of the NSW Australian Rheumatology Association Council and is the chairman of the Electronic Communication Committee of the association. He is constantly finding ways to enhance the association’s webpage to promote and educate the public on rheumatological conditions.
Herman has an unique approach in his patient care. He places great emphasis on patient education in the management of chronic disease and is well known for his perseverance in motivating patients to take up physical therapy and be proactive in managing their conditions.
Dr Tim Lu MBBS, FRACP – Brookvale
Tim is a Rheumatologist and Consultant Physician at Manly Hospital, and a clinical senior lecturer, The University of Sydney. He has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals including The Medical Journal of Australia, Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases and Arthritis & Rheumatism. He has also written a book chapter on therapeutic strategies in the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus.
Prior to the current appointment, he was working within the department of rheumatology at University College London Hospital.
Tim enjoys treating a wide range of rheumatic diseases and has a special interest in inflammatory arthritis, osteoporosis and lupus. He speaks English, Mandarin and Hokkien.
Dr Nick Benton BSc (Hons) MBBS (Lond) FRACP – Brookvale
Nick is a Rheumatologist and specialist General Physician. He trained at St George’s Hospital, London and at Auckland City Hospital in New Zealand. He brings a wealth of broad clinical experience to the team and is particularly interested in early inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue disease and gout. He has experience in musculoskeletal imaging, especially MRI and is developing skills in musculoskeletal Ultrasound. He has undertaken research into early inflammatory arthritis and has published work in the field of musculoskeletal imaging. He also holds General Medicine appointments at Manly, Mona Vale and Hornsby hospitals and is the Rheumatologist for the Northern Beaches Area Health Service.
Dr Grace Yung Bsc (Med), MBBS, FRACP – Parramatta
Grace is a Consultant Endocrinologist and Nuclear Medicine Physician. She has experience in a wide range of aspects in endocrinology and her specific interests include thyroid disease and diabetes. Her experience as a Nuclear Medicine Physician, and in particular, in interpreting thyroid scans, bone mineral density and other endocrinology related diagnostic nuclear imaging strengthens her expertise in managing these conditions. She has presented at several national conferences and has publications in clinical journals.
She is a current member of the Endocrine Society of Australia and Australian Diabetes Society. Grace also works at Concord Hospital as a staff specialist in Endocrinology and is a clinical associate of the University of Sydney medical school.
She can communicate in Cantonese and Mandarin.
Dr John Kok BSc (Med), MBBS (Hons), FRACP – Parramatta
John is a Consultant Endocrinologist and Nuclear Medicine Physician. He is a VMO in Endocrinology at Canterbury Hospital.
He is familiar with the medical needs of the local community having trained at Westmead and Liverpool Hospitals, in both specialties. He has extensive experience in the management of all endocrine disorders, with a special interest in diabetes, thyroidology, and obesity, having published and presented on certain of these topics in peer reviewed journals and conferences. He aims to head a multidisciplinary endocrinology team at BJC Health, utilising the allied health services including a dietician and exercise physiologist, to provide a coordinated model of care for patients.
His expertise in treating osteoporosis is further strengthened by his credentialing in reporting BMD assessments.
John is active in medical education and is a clinical associate lecturer with the University of Sydney and he is fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese, such that he is well placed to address the specific concerns of this population in a culturally appropriate manner.
