The Role of Hip Muscle Function in the Treatment of Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

Pain as a result of patella (kneecap) tracking problems or kneecap joint inflammation is the most common type of knee pain. Studies have shown that strengthening of the inner thigh muscles and kneecap taping can help reduce knee pain significantly.

A study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine has also shown that improvements in hip flexibility and strength can significantly reduce knee symptoms.

More specifically the study concentrated on improvements in upper thigh/hip strength combined with increased hip flexor and iliotibial band (outer thigh) flexibility
